Features
Everythinga clip needs.
Recording that stays out of your game's way, a hotkey that always works, sound you can take apart, and a quick way to get clips into Discord.
01/Recording
Always on, never in the way.
Retake records in the background the whole time you play, without filling your disk. It only keeps the last stretch, in memory.
Clip
Clip length
How far back a saved clip goes.
Frame rate
Match your monitor for the smoothest clips.
Quality
About 600 MB per minute
- 01
Always-on replay
Keeps the last 30 seconds, 1, 2 or 5 minutes, or a custom length. Saving doesn't stop recording.
- 02
Up to 240 FPS
Pick 60, 120, 144 or 240 FPS to match your monitor, so your clips look as smooth as the game felt.
- 03
Quality presets that show the cost
Standard, High or Best, with MB per minute and memory used shown up front. Advanced has constant quality, bitrate and a resolution cap.
- 04
Uses your graphics card
Records with the video encoder built into NVIDIA, AMD and Intel graphics, picked automatically, so it's built to cost your game almost nothing. There's a software fallback.
- 05
Finds your games
Known games, games in your Steam, Epic and Riot folders, and fullscreen 3D apps. Browsers and Discord are ignored. Add a game yourself, or turn recording off for one.
- 06
Compatibility mode
For the odd game whose clips come out black or frozen.
- 07
Cursor recording
Optional, for the games where you want to see it.
02/Saving
One key, and it's a clip.
No recording to start, no hours of footage to scrub through. Something good happens, you press the hotkey, and that stretch is saved.
Save hotkey
Press it during a game to save a clip
Click the box, then press the keys you want. Esc cancels.
Play a sound when a clip is saved
So you know it worked without leaving the game.
In-game notifications
Clip folder
C:\Users\you\Videos\Retake
Each game gets its own folder inside.
- 01
One hotkey
Alt+F8 by default, rebindable in one click. It works even in games that block normal hotkeys, such as League of Legends.
- 02
In-game notifications
A small card in the corner you choose shows “Saving…”, then “Saved”, or what went wrong. It never takes focus, lets clicks through and stays out of your recordings.
- 03
Save sound
So you know it worked without looking away from the game.
- 04
Sorted by game
Clips land in a folder per game, inside the clip folder you choose.
03/Audio
Every voice on its own track.
Game, your mic and voice chat are recorded separately, so you can drop your mic or your friends from a clip after the fact.
What to record
Game sound
Everything the game plays.
Your microphone
Your voice, on its own track.
Voice chat
Your friends in Discord.
Everything else
Music, videos and notifications. Usually best left off.
Microphone
Remove background noise
Filters out keyboard clicks, fans and hum.
- 01
Separate tracks
Game sound, your microphone, voice chat (like Discord) and, if you want, everything else on the PC. Plus a ready-made mix.
- 02
Choose your microphone
Pick one, or follow the Windows default.
- 03
Background noise removal
Cleans keyboard clicks, fans and hum off your mic.
- 04
Only the game
Game audio comes from the game alone, so notifications and music stay out of your clips unless you want them.
04/Library
Your clips, easy to find.
Clips are grouped by day and named after the game, with a preview you can scrub just by hovering.

Favorite, filter by game, rename, show in folder, or delete to the Recycle Bin so it can be undone.
- 04
Select several at once
Favorite, copy or delete a batch of clips together.
- 05
Copy and paste anywhere
